Hello, I’m Sarah.
As a mother, a woman, and a doula, I believe in the village: one that instinctively gathers to support its members. For so many modern families, loved ones are spread around the world making the creation of a village – especially one that will support you leading up to, during, and after birth – harder than ever. Growing a family is a transformative time and a time when you need extra care. It’s imperative to find someone who can care for you and your family when you need it. Sometimes, you won’t even know you need it and believe you should be doing it all on your own. That is when I show up for you.
Just like birth, my journey to becoming a doula has been a transformational one. Twenty+ years ago, I ran into a college acquaintance at a friends’ wedding. She told me she was a doula, it was the first I’ve ever heard of it, yet I stored the idea in the back of my mind. I enjoyed professional pursuits in the publishing, education, and non-profit Jewish community worlds, yet I never stopped thinking about what life would be like as a doula. The unmedicated birth of my two children (one vaginal breech, one at home) within the Canadian healthcare system confirmed that I was meant to be a birthworker. It took some time, but here I am, pursuing a decades-long dream.
I welcome the opportunity to join your village to help you pursue a dream of growing a family, nurturing the one you have, and receiving the care you deserve.
